WWC256 – Kath\’s Challenge: All About Occasions

Hello and welcome.  This week is all about \”Occasion\” cards at The Watercooler Wednesday Challenge and Kath is our hostess.
I started by making an \”ink-smoosh\” panel.  Here was my technique:

  1. I liberally inked an 6×6\” acrylic block with Distress Inks.  I wanted an ombre gradient look so went in rows across the page.  I used Mermaid Lagoon, Salty Ocean and Twisted Citron.
  2.  I liberally sprayed the inked block with water
  3. \”Smooshed\” the block onto a piece of watercolor paper
  4. Weighted the ink/block with a book for 5-6 minutes
  5. Uncovered.  If the ink pooled, I dabbed with a paper towel.
The next day, after the panel was dry, I die cut the B using the Altenew Mega Alphabet \”B\” die.  I heat embossed the birthday sentiment and die cut a cover frame using Sunny Studio \”Frilly Frame Stripe\”.  I glued the striped frame, B and sentiment to an A2 card.  I like the clean simple lines of this card.

WWC252 – Marsha\’s Special 3- Week "Anything Goes" Challenge

Hello and welcome!  The Watercooler Wednesday Challenge is changing things up during the holidays and we have a three week \”Anything Goes\” challenge.  Marsha is our special hostess.
I ordered this adorable Simon Says Stamp  Li\’l Gnome die this year and went a little crazy.  I made 18 gnomes to put on tags and Christmas cards.  I really like this \”glitter\” gnome.

I took a sheet of Ranger Ink Silver Sparkle Cardstock and added alcohol ink.  The panel was very pretty.  I then die cut the gnome.  The beard and nose are cut from leftover scraps from previous ink smooshing projects.  I love how the blond beard has orange streaks.

For the background I used a scrap of Lawn Fawn\’s Perfectly Plaid paper.  I also die cut a rectangle to act as a backdrop for the gnome. I felt like it looked like a plaid belt with a big white buckle.

I heat embossed the sentiment (Stamps of Life Elves2Stamp) and attached all the elements to a kraft notecard.

WWC250 – Helen\’s Feminine "Anything Goes" Challenge

Hello and welcome. This week we are making \”feminine\” cards at the Watercooler Wednesday Challenge. Talented Helen is our hostess.
I wanted to do a pretty thank you card so I started by stamping,  coloring and die cutting this favorite wreath.  I wanted a subtle white on white backdrop so I die cut a basket weave panel and affixed to an A2 card base. I love the pretty little sentiment which I heat embossed.

Supplies:
Avery Elle – Festive Wreath stamps and dies
Frantic Stamper Basket Weave die.
Bristol Cardstock
Zig Clean Clear Markers (May Green 47, Pale Green 45, Lt. Carmine Red 21, Red 20, Light Blue 36, Cobalt Blue 31).
Sentiment:  Photoplay Paprika

We used LOTS of die cuts on this card. For the door, we free hand drew the wood grain and stained glass inserts.  I personalized my Christmas door and added my mini-Aussie \”Scout\” to the front porch.  I think she looks adorable in her little Christmas cape and hood.

  • Hero Arts Fun in the Rain (dog)

WWC248 – Kath\’s Masculine "Anything Goes" Challenge

Hello and welcome!  This week at The Watercooler Wednesday Challenge we are designing projects for the men in our lives.  Kath is our hostess.  I created a card for my brother who drives a pickup and is an avid surfer.  I love how this die set has beach accessories to fill the truck bed.

Nuvo Tonic Hot Chocolate embossing powder

I used Spellbinder\’s Truckin\’ Through the Seasons die and Nuvo Tonic Hot Chocolate Embossing powder for the sentiment (Ranger Letter It). The card stock is Bohemia Blue Bird and Barefoot Beautiful \”All Boy\”.

Can\’t wait to pop this card in the mail to sunny California.

Ink Smooshing with Altenew Mega Alphabet Die

I felt inspired by Altenew\’s November Inspiration Challenge and those lovely pink flowers.  I just received several Altenew Mega Alphabet dies plus Altenew\’s large thanks die and wanted to play with them.  I was thinking thank you notes and personalized stationary.

I decided ink smooshing on the Mega \”T\” die would be interesting.  I applied two shades of distress ink: Spun Sugar and Pickled Raspberry to a 6×6\” acrylic block and then sprayed with water.  I put the spun sugar at the bottom and the pickled raspberry at the top because I wanted gradient color.  I put the ink/water side onto watercolor paper, weighted it down with a book and let it sit for 5 minutes.  When that was done, I took a piece of cardstock and sopped up the remaining color for my background panel. I wanted the same colors but in a more muted watercolor look.  There is a bit of pinkish linen in the color swatch so I did the same smooshing technique with Antique Linen.  After the watercolor paper was dry, I die cut the \”T\”.  I also die cut the \”Thanks\” die cut from Elm Green textured paper that matched the color in the inspiration color swatch.  I then die cut small flowers from the antique linen, and pink watercolor panels.  The leaves were left over from a previous project and I thought they added to the layout.

I assembled the card by putting the second generation sopped up ink smooshed panel behind a die cut cover and then arranged the die-cut elements.

I always give my mom a packet of cards for Christmas and I think I am going to include this one.

I am pleased to be entering this card in Altenew\’s November Challenge.

WWC245 – Anything Goes Challenge

Hello and welcome!  October has five Wednesdays and that means it is \”Anything Goes\” at the Watercooler Wednesday Challenge.  We would love for you to submit your creation!

Handmade Card with Memory Box Perky Happy Birthday die

I came up with the idea for creating a fall birthday card with dark cardstock for a seasonal look.  Prior to die cutting, I backed the patterned card stock with adhesive paper  then I die cut the three blooms and sentiment which  made constructing the layout very easy.  I like the clean autumn look of this card.

Supplies Used:
Simon Says Stamp Stitched Daisies dies
Memory Box Perky Happy Birthday sentiment die
Bohemia Barefoot Beautiful Card Stock #BH1062
Hershey Brown textured cardstock
Sizzix adhesive sheets

The Card Concept: Bountiful Blessings Challenge  I was inspired (by the beautiful brown door, fall flowers and autumnal color palette in the inspiration photo) to make a clean and layered card.

Die Cuttin\’ Divas Anything Goes Challenge  My card includes lots of die cuts…the flowers, the sentiment and the stitched card base.

Tuesday Taggers Colors of Autumn Challenge I chose browns, yellows and oranges for my colors of autumn.

WWC243 – Heidi\’s Masculine "Anything Goes" Challenge

Alcohol Ink, Yupo paper sunset.

Hello and Welcome! This week we are creating Masculine Cards at the  Watercooler Wednesday Challenge and Heidi is our hostess.

I\’ve been on an alcohol ink/Yupo paper roll and thought I would do a masculine sympathy card.  I love the unpredictability of alcohol inks but I wanted to create a sunset background where the sun was setting over trees and a lake.  I like the end result.  The tree is a die from Simon Says Stamp.  The sentiment is my favorite for sympathy cards:  My Sentiments Exactly – Sympathy.

WWC241 – Dawn\’s Feminine "Anything Goes" Challenge

Hello and welcome!  This week we are making \”feminine\” cards at the Watercooler Wednesday website and Dawn is our hostess.
Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid designer paper.
I was in need of some Get Well cards and I thought some daisy paper pieced inlays would be \”feminine\” and fun.

Recipe:
  • I glued some Lawn Fawn \”Perfectly Plaid\” paper to cardstock and then die cut with Sugar Pea\’s Element Builder frame.
  • I die cut the daisy from Newton\’s Nook Flower Trio from both the plaid paper/cardstock and then white card stock.
  • I stamped the sentiment
  • I die cut the pink inner flower from a scrap of Yupo paper with alcohol ink.
  • Next I inlaid the white daisy, added the pink layer and then added the center from the background.
I really like how the card turned out.
