Flower Pattern Cover Die

I LOVE cover dies so I was excited to create with this Flower Pattern Cover Die, which is perfect for Spring and Summer. I started by ink blending a rainbow panel which I then die cut with the cover plate and then used the inlay technique to create a one layer background. This went more quickly than you would think because the die cuts fit like a good quality puzzle. My placement and gluing took about 20 minutes.

TIP: Keep your die-cuts in the panel until you start gluing so you know the orientation and position on your background.

Fun and happy Copic colored Alligator Gator Birthday Card using Hero Arts Birthday Animal Stamps + Pointed Arches Infinity Dies.

Isn’t this Alligator the cutest? He is one 7 animal stamps included in the Birthday Animals Bundle. The set also includes 8 birthday/everyday sentiments. I combined the stamps with the Pointed Arches Infinity Dies. Infinity Dies are definitely staples in my craft room and I like the interest the arches add to projects.

Easy One Layer Sympathy Card

I love everything about Rub-on transfers. I love how easy they are to use, the look they add to projects and how fun they are to apply! This Spring, Hero Arts included “Sympathy Transfers” in their release. I did some quick ink blending on my background and then added my Hero Transfers for a quick and easy card.

I really like dimension when I am designing a card and Altenew’s Instant Dimension Foam Tape will keep me stocked for quite a while. Wow, this Timeless Tulips stamp set is fabulous! Two BIG, Bold beautiful stamps with a Graphic Art Vibe and wonderful sentiments that will work for so many occasions. I could see it for Mother’s Day, a Get Well Card, Ballet Recital, Birthday, Valentine’s Day….lots of possibilites.

Both cards came together quickly because I used the coordinating coloring stencils. I started by stamping with black pigment ink. Once the ink was dry, I lined up my stencils and started coloring. I used Altenew Crisp Dye Inks in Coral Berry, Ruby Red, Paper Bag, Firefly, Green Fields and Evergreen. The image was easy to die cut and the sentiment is included with this stamp set. I used a Kraft Card base and then ink blended some Paper Bag Crisp Dye Ink along the edges to tie the card panel and base together.

I used the coloring stencils on card #2 also. For this card, I ink blended a coordinating background using Coral Berry into Ocean Waves.

The Arch of Flowers Bundle is such a fun and creative kit! For my first card, I used the stamp, coloring stencil and die. The die is gorgeous and very detailed which really adds to its beauty! The coloring stencil was very easy to line up and use and I love the effect. The stamp set also has great sentiments included, which is always a big plus! To finish the card I just added enamel dots to the flower centers.

Tips for Clean and Simple Handmade Cards

Hello and welcome! You are probably here “hopping” with the Altenew Educators and I am pleased you stopped by! To start at the beginning of Altenew’s Hop, please click HERE.

Today I have two clean and simple cards to share. This is not my typical style, but I do love CAS cards. To me, Clean and Simple means LOTs of white space. To make that work, I like contrast so I used bold colors and black accents to make my card pop.

I think Mini stamps work so well with CAS cards so I chose Altenew’s Modern Eucalyptus Stamp and Die Bundle for my first card. I did some simple coloring with Altenew Artist Markers (Sets F: Sunshine Valley and G: Water Garden) and then die cut my Eucalyptus. I wanted to spotlight the plant, so I also cut a small background panel using one of my most used staples – Rounded Rectangles Dies. I heat embossed the sentiment (Birthday Greetings) and laid it over the rounded rectangle die cut. A thin black border helps tie the elements together.

For my second card, I used Altenew’s Tall Vase Stamp and Die Bundle. I colored and die cut the image and then mounted on a small die cut (Rounded Rectangles Dies) and added my sentiment: Birthday Greetings.

Pro Tips for Successful Clean and Simple Cards:

Mini Stamps Work Great
Bold Simple Colors
Add a hint or two of black
Remember to use contrast
Don’t forget to leave lots of open white space

Altenew Background Check – It’s All About the Background

The Educators at Altenew are hopping on Intstagram and the theme is “Background Check – it’s All About the Background“! I wanted to combine fun backgrounds with Majestic Bouquet, my favorite floral stamp layering set from the past year. I think it is just gorgeous done in blues!

For my background I used Altenew’s Cross Stitch Cover Die . I ran the cover die through my die-cutting machine and then cut out a tag using Altenew’s Terrific Tags die set. The little perferations add just the right amount of interest to showcase the beautiful floral bloom.

For my second card I went BOLD! I love the gorgeous red against the white textured background. I die cut the tag first and then embossed the tag so I wouldn’t loose the lovely detailed embossing. I got a great impression by embossing on 80# cardstock

Adding twine or ribbon is easy: Double the twine and poke the two ends through the hole. Next, slip the ends through the looped middle and then pull flat. Neat, easy and functional.

Altenew Educators “Alphabet Name Game” Blog Hop, Linky Party + Giveaway

“K” is for…..Karen! I was inspired to make an initial notecard for Altenew’s “Alphabet Name Game” Blog Hop. I love to make my own paper so I started by coming up with a color palette. I wanted a bright happy card so I selected aqua, green, yellow, pink and tangerine.

Ink Smooshing Technique

I started by making three inked panels. Here was my technique:

I liberally inked an 6×6″ acrylic block with Altenew Inks. I wanted an ombre gradient look so went in rows across the block.
I very liberally sprayed the inked block with water
“Smooshed” the block onto a piece of watercolor paper
Weighted the ink/block with a book for 5 minutes
Uncovered. If the ink pooled, I dabbed with a paper towel.
I made a “second generation” panel for the background by taking a piece of Bristol Cardstock and soaking up the excess ink on my work space.

Panel one and the background were made with Seashore Mini Ink Cube Set (Lagoon & Volcano Lake), Rainbow Prism Mini Ink Cube Set (Parrot & Warm Sunshine). Panel two was Coral Berry and Orange Cream.

I let the panels dry overnight and then I started my die-cutting. The “K” is from Altenew’s Mega Alphabet Collection and the grid background uses Altenew’s GardenTrellis Cover die, which is a favorite of mine.

I think these are probably the most adorable papercrafting projects that I’ve ever made! These little pop-up houses are created using the July 2021 Amazing Paper Grace Die of the Month and they are just so cute!

Home Sweet Home Pop Up 3D Vignettes

I adore papercrafting so I really enjoyed creating this Pop Up Die Cut House. The assembly is straight forward and the house was easy to put together.

The house is designed to flatten for mailing. I tested this, and mine “popped up” just fine after being in an envelop.

Karen - Brown - 2021 - July APG kit - Blog Hop - 2-WM I used Lagoon cardstock for the eaves, windows and doors and Graphite for the roof. I love the contrast of these colors against the fresh white of the house. The door knob and flower center are enamel dots.The body of the house is designed to hold a tabbed card (or three). Altenew 8”x11” Majestic Bouquet Stamp Set Release Blog Hop + Giveaway ($200 in Total Prizes)

Hello friends! Today we’re celebrating Altenew’s Majestic Bouquet Layering Stamp release and I have three cards to share. This is a beautiful layering stamp set with 41 stamps (all made in the USA!) and lots of gorgeous detail.

I love the vibrant blues in my first card! I used the darkest three colors in the Glacier Caves Mini Ink Cubes set and ink blended the accent panel with the darkest two colors. All of my sentiments are from the Birthday Greeting Stamp Set and the enamel dots are Glacier Caves Enamel Dots, which coordinate beautifully with the ink cubes. I kept this card simple because I wanted to empasize the bold colors and lovely floral stamp.

For the pink card, I combined the Majestic Bouquet Layering Stamp with the beautiful Majestic Blooms 3D Embossing Folder. I chose three pinks (Blush, Cotton Candy and Coral Berry) from Altenew’s 48 Crisp Die Ink Collection for my stamping and then used Coral Berry to ink blend the circle background. I think this is such a lovely feminine card.

For my final card, I used the three lightest colors in the Seashore Mini Ink Cube Set. I then die cut my panel using the largest die from the Rounded Rectangles Set. The background panel was ink blended with Lagoon ink. To add a bit more texture, I used the Modern Squares 3D Embossing Folder for my background panel.
